Form Follows Function
Simplicity meets technology - and style and performance are the result with Yamaha's Street Sports Single, the SZR660.

Big singles have long been a feature of Yamaha's model line-up, and now Yamaha is pleased to add the inspired SZR660 supersport machine to its range.

Combining the concept of simple, low maintenance single-cylinder engines with modern chassis and engine technology, the SZR is a sharp handling torquey, neat-streeter. Powered by an up-rated version of Yamaha's proven 659cc liquid-cooled, five-valve engine, the SZR offers strong low-speed torque for threading congested city traffic, as well as an excellent top end power surge for the longer stretches of black top. The high-efficiency air intake and exhaust system sees cooling air directed beneath the twin headlights and supersport-style fuel tank, and exiting through ducts in the futuristic tail section.

The engine is mounted between the rigid alloy spars of a lightweight Deltabox frame, contributing to the SZR660's outstanding steering precision and ease of manuvrability.

At the front, flex-resistant 41mm tubes offer full compression and rebound adjustability, while the rear features an asymmetrical, boomerang-style swingarm, directly descended from Yamaha's Grand Prix racing machines, and a Boge rear shock. Keeping unsprung weight low are a pair of hollow, 3-spoke, 17 inch wheels similar to those found on the YZFR range, while high spec. Brembo brakes and a single 320mm front disc highlight the SZR's identity as a true performer.

Of course, it's not all technology - the compact, wind-beating bodywork of the SZR seemingly having a less definable, yet no less tangible quality.
